ALL ISLAND ENGLISH ORATORY COMPETITION
S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia invites students aged 14 to 19 across Sri Lanka to participate at the All - Island English Oratory Competition which is being organised as part of our celebration of the 175th Year Anniversary of the founding of the College.
The competition seeks to reaffirm the value of traditional oratorical skill—persuasion, clarity of thought, and expression—and revive interest in public speaking as a meaningful form of civic and intellectual engagement in schools.
Eligibility: Open to all students across Sri Lanka who are between 14 years and 19 years on 3rd August 2025 (Date of Birth between 4 August 2005 and 3 August 2011).
Format of the Competition
Round 1: Online Preliminary Round: Deadline for Submissions 3rd August 2025
- Prepared speech (3 - 4 minutes) on any issue of the participant’s choosing concerning international affairs.
- Submission: Participants submit videos of their speeches via the official competition portal on or before 3rd August 2025.
Round 2: In-Person Semi-Finals: 6th September 2025
- 12 participants will be selected to participate in the semi-finals on 6th September 2025 at S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia.
- Format :
- One prepared speech on one of several prescribed topics (topics will be announced on 16th August 2024 along with the names of the semi-finalists; and
- One impromptu speech (topic given 20 minutes prior to the speech).
Round 3: Grand Finals: 13th September 2025
- Five finalists will be announced after the semi-finals are concluded;
- The finals will be conducted on 13th September 2025 at S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia;
- Format : identitcal to the semi-finals
- One prepared speech (on a prescribed topic other than the topic on which the semi-finals speech was made by the relevant participant); and
- One impromptu speech (topic given 20 minutes prior to the speech).
